Starting your own board game group can be a very rewarding experience. There’s a lot of reasons to do it too. Maybe you don’t have a game store to play at or you just want to set some time up to hang out. That being said there are some responsibilities. I’ve been running a game group for several months now and I have some thoughts on it.

The first tip that I would give to those thinking about bringing a board game group together is to make sure that you are not the only person with the board games. I made this the first suggestion because I can guarantee you that there will be a point in time that you may not feel like playing board games and if you may not want to show up then someone else will need other games in order to not disappoint the other members.

Set up a rotating location. Having a rotating location will help the group a little more as well. If you hold the group at just one place it may be hard for players to get to the board game group. Another problem this takes care of is having one person continually preparing a space over and over. Sharing the responsibility is important for these kinds of things and splitting things up here I find helps.

Contact your local game store. There’s no problem with reaching out to your local game store! Most of these places have a large selection of games that you can play for free. Setting aside some time for people to get together, bring games, and meet new people can be fun. There is a chance though that they already have there time taken up so go in with an open mind

Keep in mind that everything I’m saying is subjective. If you and your buddies want to play and you only have a couple of games then go for it. Play your games and have fun! I’m just talking about the problems that I ran into. Make sure you do whatever works for you to have fun!
